Muriel Lee Daugherty

Born to Emmett and Muriel McPherson, Cookie was the oldest of 3 children. She was raised in Independence, MO and was a proclaimed tomboy. Cookie enjoyed a happy childhood with family, friends, and many pets, including ponies and horses. Her love for horses was one of her passions that remained with her throughout her life. She was a 1954 graduate of William Chrisman High School, and later graduated from Graceland College in 1956. Cookie married the love of her life, Donald Lee "Rusty" Daugherty on June 17, 1956, and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage. Together they raised 3 children, Darrell, Donna, and Jim. She loved raising her children and later assisting Rusty with their trucking company. When not working together, Rusty and Cookie loved traveling, which included many motorcycle trips. They were members of the Retreads (40 and over) Motorcycle Club. After retirement, Rusty and Cookie spent the winter months in Rio Hondo, TX. After Rusty's passing, Cookie moved to Raytown to live with her son Jim and his wife Anna. During those years she reconnected with old friends, as well as making several new ones. Cookie was also able to share in several family milestones such as grandchildren's graduations, weddings, and the birth of her 5 great-grandchildren. Cookie was a woman of great faith and would often be known to share her love for the Lord with others. Cookie is survived by her son Darrell (Diane) Daugherty of Independence, and grandchildren Becky Branscom, Lee's Summit; Dillon Daugherty, Springfield, MO; Darcy Daugherty, Springfield, MO. Daughter Donna (Jay) Davis of Independence, and grandchildren Alec (Sara) Davis, Springfield, MO; Jenna (Eric) Shepherd, Independence; Miles Davis, Independence. Son Jim (Anna) Daugherty of Raytown, and grandchildren Aaron (Serena) Daugherty, great-grandchildren Brennan and Kora Daugherty, Lee's Summit; Debra (Brandon) Leslie, great-grandchildren Luke and Dean Leslie, Lee's Summit; Kara (Adam) Schoff, great-grandchild Cohen Schoff, Independence. Brother Jerry (Delois) McPherson, Kansas City, KS; Brother-in-law Bob (Diane) Lamb, Independence; Nephew Rob (Melissa) Lamb, Los Alamos, NM., and also her life long best friend Daisy (Alvin) Gwinn, Independence. She was predeceased by her Parents, Emmet and Murial Daugherty, her husband Rusty Daugherty, sister Diane Lamb, son-in-law Jay Davis and sister-in-law Delois McPherson. Cookie's heartfelt love, warmth, smile, and ever present wit will be greatly missed.
